Scalextric was made by Hornby of Hornby Trains fame and first appeared in the 1950's. Naturally, the technology has improved since then but essentially Scalextric is the same as it ever was. You can now buy different sized sets of Scalextric, and, of course, you can still get all sorts of trackside accessories. Horby managed to do to car racing what it did to train spotting and brought it to life (in a manner of speaking) with Scalextric. Early boxed sets are now very collectable world wide.
